Diagnosis/Non-Surgical

When diagnosing periodontal disease, your dentist will assess the health of your gums using periodontal charting. This allows us to see if your gums are healthy, and if they aren’t we will be able to evaluate exactly how severely affected they are. Once we have diagnosed the stage of your periodontitis, we will construct a treatment plan for you.

Treatment plans vary with the severity of the problem. We have several instruments and methods for treating periodontal disease including ultrasonic instruments, scaling and root planing. Our ultrasonic instruments are state-of-the-art, allowing us to clean out the infected pockets with minimal contact with healthy tissue. Because the healthy tissue is still intact, there is less healing time and the procedure is relatively pain-free. Scaling and root planing is another way for us to clean out the decayed tissue from the gums.

After treatment, the pockets should close between the gum and the tooth on their own. While there is no real cure for periodontal disease, treatment and diligent at-home care will significantly increase the health of your gums.
